(HealthDay News) -- Sleep apnea is a condition that causes a person to stop breathing temporarily during sleep. When a person isn't breathing, even for brief periods, it can deprive the blood of oxygen and lead to serious complications.

Here are some common warning signs of sleep apnea that should be evaluated by your doctor. They're provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine:

sleep apnea and having no insurance to be tested

I am a 56 year old female that has sleep apnea. I use a CPAP which has improved my sleep. I took ambien for over 2 yrs. to help me tolerate the CPAP. I recently stopped taking ambien because I was sleeping only 4 hrs. with the use of ambien and th CPAP. I did not go to sleep for more than 2 hrs. for over 5 days and then I started sleeping a little better every night. I have a son that is 25 and he never sleeps. He has sinus tachycardia, is ADD and has suffered from panic attacks for over 6 years. I'm positive he has sleep apnea but he does not have a job and he has no insurance. I'm very frightened for him. Can anyone help me with information in ref to how he can be tested. The sleep study is extremely expensive.
