Mishandling Money May Foreshadow Alzheimer's

miss- managing money

This article is absolutely correct. My husband died from alsheimers. One of the earliest warnings was his difficulty counting money for a volunteer food program he headed up. My advise to other Alzheimer's care givers is to take over all financial affairs especially where investments and insurance are concerned. I did not do this early enough.

You Need to Meet my Father

The behaviour described is too familiar to describe. For all of you who are unsure, it gets worse, way worse, and it doesn't appear to ever get better.

I have to live it everyday.

The role of allied health in screening functioning

This is a very interesting study, and one that has peaked my interest to find the original published research. I agree that adequate screening and early detection is beneficial for adult & senior quality of life. The one thing I would like to add is that this article mentioned the role of "doctors" in screening patients, however, within current resource limitations, doctors don't always have the time or skill set to adequately assess a patient's functional skill levels. This article shows the need for increased allied health services, specifically occupational therapists (me!), in screening seniors to detect declines in function. Having a doctor centered health system, instead of health teams, doesn't make sense. There are many studies that show that health teams can lead to increased quality of life for patients as well as being more fiscally responsible.
