Any legitimacy this article may have had went out the window the moment the author starting praising the regulation of the FDA. She claims tattoo inks are dangerous because they're not regulated by the FDA, "which goes after cosmetics with a vengeance." Yeah, right.
The FDA hardly regulates cosmetics at all. On their own website, the FDA explains how hey do not take any responsibility for making sure cosmetics are safe before being put on the market, as they require no testing, and leave it up to the cosmetics companies. Even if products are found to be hazardous after being put on the shelves, recalling products are "voluntary" for companies.
Is this what you call "going after cosmetics with a vengeance?"
Even though the FDA has found (in their own bias studies) that most leading lipsticks contain unsafe levels of lead and many mascaras have mercury, they haven't done anything to force companies to make their cosmetics safer.
So the article tries to alarm you by saying "tattoo inks may even contain mercury & lead!" Wait, you mean like the lipstick and mascara I buy that are "regulated" by the FDA??
and I am going through the laser removal process. It is soooooooooooo painful, 1,000 times worse than getting them! I know when I got my tattoos I loved them and thought it was really cool and wouldn't listen to anyone who told me not go through with it. It was mostly family that told me to take heed so of course I went forward in full force. I have over 22 of them. I think that you are very intelligent to weigh all sides of the argument. I am keeping the ones that are not visable when wearing all styles of clothing. If you are dead set on getting a tattoo my only advise would be to get it where only you and your guy can see it. Who doesn't like a little mystery.

Tattoos are wonderful
They are wonderful wonderful, and let me sing from a mountain WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Tattoos do have inherant health risks. It's basically a beatufil scar made of perforated skin and practically an open sore. That is very true. Infection is possible but unlikely if kept clean and properly hydrated, but too much. (too much unscented lotion may cause fading) but ultimately they are worth it. I have two tattoos so far, one is four inches tall and two wide, the other is seven inches tall and about four inches wide. I have absolutely NO regret from all seven hours of pricking I endured. The best way to avoid regret is to have your tattoo picked out a year before you get it. Always question your design in every aspect, be shrewd and skeptical, and if you still love your tattoo design, by all means get it done:)

the tattoo
my aunt has alot of tattoos and she is taking me to go get one. but idk if i want one. Should i get one. I want one. But do you think i should get one. Its a hard decision. I want a dark fairy one on my arm. or my back but i dont know. I am 15 years old. Yea i want one but is that bad

Tattoos are lame
At the risk of offending several otherwise decent people on this forum, I personally think tattoos are completely cheesy, cliche, tacky, and I refuse to even consider dating women that have them. Counter to their intended effect, tattoos - no matter how special, sexy, or macho you think it makes you - actual reveal the real stunning lack of creativity and individualism that you are otherwise so desperately trying to show the world.
So, I don't care how cool or badass or unique you think you are now and can show the world with your tattoo, I guarantee that you when you're fifty you'll look back and regret how much of a jackass you were in your twenties when you got it. Count on it. For example, you know who's fifty and still love tattoos? People who live in trailer parks.
Don't get tattoos. They are lame.
