Terms & Conditions
U.S.News & World Report ("U.S. News") makes available a graphic (the "2010 America's Best Colleges Badge") to ranked colleges (each, a "College") that meet the criteria set forth below and that desire to display the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge on their website. The use of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is subject to the following conditions:
The 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is for numerically-ranked college website usage only. Display of the web-format 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge must link back to the U.S. News website, http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges, using the link provided by U.S. News on the confirmation page where the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is available for download.
To be eligible to use the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge, the college should appear in at least one of the following rankings categories, either in the 2010 book America's Best Colleges or in the 2010 Premium Online Edition on USNews.com:
- Numerically ranked Best National Universities
- Numerically ranked top public National Universities
- Numerically ranked Best Liberal Arts Colleges
- Numerically ranked top public Liberal Arts Colleges
- Numerically ranked Best Universities—Master's North, South, Midwest, West
- Numerically ranked top Public Universities—Master's North, South, Midwest, West
- Numerically ranked Best Baccalaureate Colleges North, South, Midwest, West
- Numerically ranked top Public Baccalaureate Colleges
- Numerically ranked Best Undergraduate Business Programs and specialties
- Numerically ranked Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs—Doctorate and specialties
- Numerically ranked Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs—Master's/ Bachelor's and specialties
- Numerically ranked Great Schools, Great Prices
- Numerically ranked Top Up-and-Coming Schools
- Numerically ranked America's Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities
- Numerically ranked Best Undergraduate Teaching Programs
For clarity, colleges that appear in a tier, listed alphabetically in a table, or are not individually ranked (e.g. Fourth Tier) may not use a 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge.
The 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge shall only be used by the numerically ranked College named to the America's Best Colleges list, and may not be used by any parent, subsidiary, related or affiliated institutions, including but not limited to any affiliated distance learning programs. Online programs offered by the numerically ranked College may use the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge if the College offers an online degree that is the same degree as the institution's ground-based degree
The 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge shall only be used for the purpose of identifying the College as having been named to the America's Best Colleges 2010 list and not to imply an endorsement of any products or services.
The use of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is subject to the College correctly describing its placement on the America's Best Colleges 2010 list. U.S. News has the right to monitor use of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge, and if U.S. News determines at its sole discretion that a College's description of its placement on the America's Best Colleges 2010 list is inaccurate or that the 2010 America's Best Colleges placement on the College website is misleading or unacceptable, U.S. News will notify the College and the College agrees that it shall immediately remove, or change, such materials in accordance with U.S. News's request.
The 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge shall only be used in the form and colors indicated without modifications or alterations.
Permission for use of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge begins on the date that U.S. News officially posts the 2010 America's Best Colleges list on usnews.com (that is, August 20, 2009), and automatically terminates twelve (12) months thereafter or as of the date on which the next year's America's Best Colleges list is published, whichever occurs first.
The College acknowledges that the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is a trademarked and copyrighted creations belonging to U.S. News & World Report, L.P. and that all rights accruing from the use of the mark shall be to the benefit of U.S. News & World Report, L.P.
The College shall indemnify and hold U.S. News & World Report, L.P., and its parents, subsidiaries, affiliated and related companies harmless from and against any and all liability, loss, damage or injury, including reasonable attorney's fees., relating either directly or indirectly to the material on which the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge is used.
Except as set forth herein, no other use of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge may be made without U.S. News's prior express approval. For non-website uses of the 2010 America's Best Colleges Badge and any use whatsoever of the U.S. News & World Report logo, or any other text, photograph, graphic, cover or image of U.S. News & World Report magazine or www.usnews.com, the College agrees that it shall contact badges@usnews.com for specific written authorization. If the badge is used for advertising or broadcast purposes, U.S. News will review all submitted advertising uses for accuracy and may, in its sole discretion, deny permission or request changes in text that refers to the magazine and its content as a condition for granting permissions.
