Campaign 2008

Barack Obama

Barack Obama broke into national politics in 2004 with a riveting speech at the Democratic National Convention. That fall, he was elected to the Senate, and he has since clinched the Democratic nomination. With a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas, young Obama lived in Hawaii, Indonesia, and New York City, where he attended Columbia University. He became a community organizer in Chicago and then attended Harvard Law School, becoming the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review.
