Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin was elected governor of Alaska in December of 2006, the first woman to hold the office. Prior to being elected governor, Palin served two terms as the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska and two terms on the city council of Wasilla. As governor, she has focused on education and public safety. In March of 2007, she signed a bill to encourage the construction of a natural gas pipeline in Alaska. She is the first female vice presidential nominee on the GOP ticket.
