I got into Georgia Tech. I had poor GRE scores, a high master's GPA, and several publications.
There's a reason IIT ranks so low: IT BASES ITS ACCEPTANCE ON STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES.
MIT, Purdue, and Illinois don't even CONSIDER GRE scores for computer science. They look at RESEARCH record.
IIT just produces drones, or calculators.
IIT is NOT a quality research school. Standardized test scores do NOT mean quality research.
Get it through your head, Indians. IIT is nothing more than a test-based school. It's not a research school. No innovation or brilliant thought comes from there.

Where's Case Institute of Technology, of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio anyway ??? They have, or had when I was there in 73-77, a world class engineering school.
And for all you guys babbling about IIT, I really have to agree with N.S. Vinodh & R. Keyes - you really sound like illiterate idiots who can't form a complete sentence & have no knowledge of grammar, spelling or punctuation.
I have been privileged to work with some of your countrymen for over 20 years & you clowns are way, way, overrated.

As an undergraduate student who is from one of the top universities in China mainland and is applying to universities in US, I think that Universities in China mainland is far worse than you think. Do you really think that Tsinghua is worth its place before UCLA? That's joke.

Which is (could be 5 also) the best IT (ENG speaking) university for teaching methods? And not very expensive (~ 10 000 USD per year). Waiting for replies.

There are so many comments talking about IIT.....In my point of view, IIT is NOT the best that you are thinking....IIT should be No. 500 in ranking list...Im sorry I said like this...you are not my favourite beside I am very knowledgeable compared any students or graduates from IIT... For me, MIT should be No.200 from the list....because this university offers very easy subjects, many subjects are the same level as high school...

yeah its quite a debatable topic, but as pointed out most of the IIT'ans who goto Stanford or MIT or some top school and do not come back, and even if they come back (most of them never come back), a few who do after spending a lot of time there come back only to IIT's as Professor's. What does that mean ? and how would that benefit India. Its like the cream of India so to speak is taken away as skilled labor by a foreign country and India gets nothing out of it by investing in those institutions eventually. true there are lots of funding problems but given the fact the in India people have problems with money and living its obvious that if a kid has dedicated like 3-7 years studying for an entrance exam he/she would be better than the others but it does not mean that the other hundred thousand students (lacs as they would say in India) were not doing enough. Its also evident that if one has made millions already then the amount of money on the table at an Indian university like IIT would be peanuts, which all the more is a reason for a returning Indian to go help other students at regional institutes. Why would they choose to produce those skilled labor machines that go and build the west. Rather they would be doing something sensible if they could impart that knowledge in places where there is scarcity of good teachers.
Its clear if you make millions of dollars you don't need the money anymore. The next probable human want is pride. Well it can be argued that they are serving the nation but if as claimed if they were really smart wouldn't they know that those chaps at IIT are mostly going to board the flight to build another country. So does that help a developing country. Its all selfish motives and self desires.
Well its another issue that IIT as an institution relatively lacks funds compared to MIT or Berkeley or Stanford. But this does not underscore the fact that people getting in there would not go to the economically stronger zones of the world leaving behind what they could have done to the country. No doubt these people (most of them ) are smart.
As far as I know India has recently planned to Increase the number of IIT's, this is a prodding in the direction to provide quality education to more people, but alas its a huge mountain to climb looking at the number of students in the country.
As an example there are many universities in Europe where equal opportunity is given to so many students at very low costs, but however they don't lower their standards , its probably tougher or equally tough like IIT's, and as a result may be it takes longer time for students to graduate, but look at the beauty EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL.
If you listen to some of Obama's speeches, he addresses the American Univ Students saying, "..the rest of the world is hungry and they are coming.." , that probably explains it well in terms of the madness of immigrants to get into the US for personal advancement.
