Graduate Education Program Overview

Lamar University is based in Beaumont, Texas, and was named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, the founder of public education in the state. The school offers an online Master of Education and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership. Students earning an online Master of Education can choose among nearly 10 specializations, including education administration, education technology leadership and school counseling. Lamar also offers several short-term professional preparation programs, including a principal certification and a special education certificate. Some online programs may include field experiences.

The school offers multiple start dates and grants degrees three times each year. Online students have access to 24/7 tech support, digital library materials and career services. Lamar University is GI Bill certified and provides a Center for Military Services that offers resources, support and advising for students who are active-duty and veteran service members.

The school's initial teacher and advanced teacher preparation programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, one of the two accrediting organizations recognized by the Department of Education. Not all programs offered through Lamar University may meet specific state licensure requirements, so students are advised to research their home state's requirements before enrollment. Lamar University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

At Lamar University, a public institution, all of the online education classes are recorded and archived, so students can access the information on their own time. The application deadline for online education degree programs at Lamar University is rolling.
