JIU IS THE PIONEER IN ONLINE LEARNING. Started in 1993, JIU was the first university anywhere to exist completely online. In 1999 JIU became the first fully online university in the U.S. to be accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. First, all students sign an enrollment agreement outline both the student's and the University's responsibilities, including ethical behavior. Then, these topics, including ethics and ethical research, academic honesty, copyright infringement, plagiarism and APA standards are covered in the 100 and 200 level undergraduate courses. All courses require the use of Turn-it-in.com or other anti-plagiarism software. Finally, each undergraduate student is required to complete successfully, an Ethics course to earn his or her degree from JIU.
