Thank you so much for the tips you have given me as I further my education online.

As a professor who has been teaching online course since 2005, for University of Maryland University College (UMUC) I also recommend Microsoft Word because as a professor I can use "tracked changes" to provide feedback on written projects, papesr or exams. It is better than turning in a *.pdf document.

Gmail also has a video chat (now called hangout) that is FREE if you have a gmail account

The single most important productivity tool for me is End Note. EndNote allows students to manage references and organization by class/project. It means that I am never hunting around, my citations are always at my fingertips, and I can work at the speed of thought.

"Rosenfeld suggests using headsets that plug into the computer's USB port, rather than its microphone jack or that use Bluetooth technology, which he says operate with an inferior sound quality."

^^ The above statement is inaccurate. While bluetooth does indeed suck, the audio fidelity of a computer microphone jack is the best option unless you have a low quality microphone or soundcard. USB devices take extra CPU and can slow your PC down, and aren't compatible with all voice applications.
