Great advice Rebecca. It is important that students know what to look for when choosing the school to get their degree at. It is especially important that they look a little deeper when considering online education as there are many for-profit schools out there. This article has a lot of great information on accreditation. - http://bit.ly/nhVoaq.

Great read! Thanks for sharing. There is also an article similar to this on custudentloans, that delves deeper into the decision making process of online degree programs. It is just as helpful as this article as well. Check it out! Link: http://j.mp/iJmSKs. Thanks for the read!

Thank you, Rebecca for that informative article on online education and the things that need to be taken into consideration when choosing an online program. I agree that one of the most significant benefits of online education is that it provides students and people who long for a change in career with the accessibility and flexibility they need, in order to fulfill their professional goals while maintaning a busy lifestyle. Websites like http://www.art-schools-online.com/ will assist students in finding a suitable online education program that will enable them to earn a degree of any level in their preferred industry of specialization, whether it's an interior design degree, a degree in nursing, or further graduate studies. Always be sure to review the graduation and retention rates of online offerings before commiting to a program.

A few notes
1. The article did not mentioned the most target audience of distance education which is adult learners who are full time employment
2. There are many Course Management Tools that in use in many schools in addition to many other softwares to facilitate online learning.
4. Do we really need to maximize online education program?
3. I feel that this article is more about marketing and advertising rather than educating and providing beneficial information about such a wide topic

This article was really well written, but it missed a few really important points about online education.
1. What TYPE of online courses do colleges offer? Do the instructors create their own courses in a custom, personalized way that best represents their teaching style? Or are they facilitating a consistent package that is prefabricated for them?
2. Also, this article missed the most important aspect of online learning: the learning management system? This is the method in which students access their courses. Some colleges have custom built learning management systems, most use a third party system. The point is that it’s not just hopping onto a Web site, everything is confidential and confined in the system.
I believe these are a few really important points when choosing an online program (which I believe is what the article was really about, in contrast to what the main title indicated).

Also check out the schools' support services and research material (library). At our public library we have many college students asking for help. Those from for-profit online schools come to us because they don't have resources or don't get help from their schools. Those from traditional schools come for practical reasons (drive to campus, home computer down, need something last minute, new student who is more comfortable with us). But not because the school where they pay tuition isn't serving them. I have been asked questions the support services for 4-year programs couldn't answer that a high school or community college library would be expected to be able to handle. Any traditional college would show you the library in a tour. Check if your for-profit will show you at least the sources for online journals and books.
