While everyone understands why busy people would want to do online coursework, the research out there about for-profit propriety schools is pretty scary.

The most wise choice would be to attend a school (online, if you must) with a land-based facility, as well (and I mean a real school, not just corporate and marketing offices).

I work with a mom who tries to juggle a full-time job with seeing her daughter with attending online classes at one of those for-profit career universities. I just received an automated collection call on the department phone line, and the school didn't even have a real person to be sure they were not embarrassing someone at work!

I now view my coworker as...well...I looked up the school's student loan default rate, and I'm wondering if anyone is going to hire anyone from such a school (I attended a private school, all classroom based, and after the recession subsided and I tried to jump into the scary job market, it took me 2 months to find employment!).

Go to a serious, land-based school that offers online or blended programs, but steer clear from those proprietary career colleges. My coworker would be absolutely embarrassed if I said, "Hey, such and such university had an automated collector call up, and I took the call and know it's where you go to school, gee, do you owe on your loans?"

How tacky to not even have a real person to ensure that collection calls on past-due student accounts goes directly to the person, and not the rest of their work department!

That's just one article, but there are many more online about default rates. And it's as if these schools are totally targeting minorities, too, as perhaps many more minorities feel a need to work while attending courses online (to meet the expenses).

BUYER BEWARE.

Go to a reputable school.

I did, and I found employment within 2 months! In a lame economy! With benefits, too.

It was worth every penny.

Don't put money in the hands of educational scam artists. You will be sorry when your coworkers or room-mates have to pick up that lame (automated) collection call when you default on your student loans.

Beware beware beware.

US president must be interested in education free careers for specially pakistanis students, because war with terrorism can neither stop unless education awareness in not introduced.

This is a great idea. It affords parents who have been affected by the recession an opportunity. Parents learning along side their kids doing homework, a great idea!
