I really don't understand why you would comment on an "Asian invasion" and "illegal Hispanic population" until you are aware of the school's socioeconomic demographics. At the school where I teach, the API scores of our Asian population continue to rise along with the scores of the Latino population, while the scores of white students stay pretty level. I can say that socioeconomic status, not ethnicity, is the biggest predictor of success or failure in terms of the research I have seen on the API scores at my school. Ethnicity doesn't have as much to do with it and your comment smacks of racism. This article was meant to acknowledge schools that deal well with a socioeconomic disadvantage. Comments about an "Asian invasion" and illegal immigrants have no place here.

To say that minorities bring the scores down is a real joke! What are you talking about? Havent you gone to most of the big Universities, hospitals, schools and seen who really are the people at the top? Who are the best Doctors, nurses, teachers, e.t.c?

Also, look up at the global academic performance and tell me who is at the top. We really do need the minorities in order to raise our scores here in America! Japan, Asia, China, Africa are all at the top with Education!

The real reason they "bring down the scores" is not that they are truly stupid. It is their lack of a good command of the English language. English is a tool which is used in ALL other subjects. Without this tool, you are handicapped, even if you have a good natural intellect. Generally, minorities like to speak their native language and that is understandable. Kids at hat age follow their peers, even if it means jumping off a cliff. My advice - diligence in learning FORMAL ENGLISH !

The below link is the top performance API schools. Just look at the top 10 schools listed here, there are many schools' student body mainly Asians...so why does the Asians bring the scores down down down? check out these schools' profile yourself.

http://projects.latimes.com/schools/2008-api-scores/ranking/page/1/

And if you have time, there are ton of schools not on top ten but still considered top performance API schools that are also mainly Asians....

In CA Bay Area, the top performance schools in Fremont, Cupertino, San Ramon, and etc all have very high concentration of what you so called "Asian invasion."

I think you are missing a lot of great schools. Oaks has a great program and their students are getting into the top schools in the nation.

I went to Arcadia High School, CA in the 70's. Now it is a school of predominantly immigrants. Chinese and Latino at that. Why are they not on the list? Looks like the Asian invasion and the illegal Hispanic population brought the scores down, down, down.

Where is Bentonville or Rogers, Arkansas? The locals tout these schools as the best. Where are they?

Looks like the "best" in school board persons eyes, is fantazy when viewed in teh Secular eye of the test scores.
