DON'T TRANSFER TO BARNARD!

Despite promises that all transfer students get housing. Yesterday, nearly half of the transfer students were told to find off campus housing, a mere 4 weeks before classes start. This was purposely done long after students had to respond to other schools, so the students have no choice but to attend Barnard in the Fall. This disproportionately affects students in the greater NYC area, but affected students from as far away as Singapore!

One thing I have learned is that there is a difference between credit hours the transfer college will accept, and whether or not those credits will count towards completing the general education, or distribution, requirements. In other words, just because the college accepts the credit hours does NOT mean that those credit hours count for fulfilling their core course requirements. Students may need to take those basic courses all over again, so be sure to ask the right questions before making a final decision.

Good information for students considering transferring... happily they can build on some of the skills they may have learned in applying to college out of high school - thinking about their interests, size of school, educational needs and wants, and social environments that will be a good fit; though there are special circumstances they need to discover and understand.
