Colleges, particularly those who fancy themselves on the upswing and therefore trying to improve the public's perception of them as top drawer, will employ the tried and true "chivas regal effect". You raise your tuition, you rebate, in institutional scholarships/grants, all of the increase. The net cost to parents remains the same BUT they get to impress friends (who are largely unaware of the chivas phenomenon)by going to "such an expensive school and brag about the large amount of "scholarship" money that their little precious qualified for.

What a joke! This game has been perfected by small and mid size private liberal arts colleges pathetic in their desperation to get on the academic map...are you listening Wofford College?

Only perspective I have is that some campus health insurance plans are not very good. Be sure to compare it to those you can find online - such as at www.eHealth.com or www.GradGuard.com/health.

Watch out on scholarship sites.

Many sites just sell your information to for-profit colleges. Look for alternatives that are promoted by organizations like Scholarship America or College Parents of America (www.collegeparents.org).

I was surprised the article didn't mention anything about text books or insurance. Any perspectives to share.
