I'm a freshman in high school and I've always always ALWAYS thought that I belonged in Harvard. Only now researching I find out that it is not my fit because even though I'm a straight A student they do not have much to offer for an art curriculuum. I want to major in art and international studies and need to find a place where there is both...so far Soka University has my hopes up!

Im only 14 and im just about to enter 9th grade which is something im pretty excited for but scared at the same time because I know that its crucial to do well the 1st year of high school and im already overwhelmed with some of my peers that have got in into programs such as DUKE tips and I was wondering do things that you do in middle school such as that, matter to colleges?

Based on the large number of schools out there, it is important to begin working with your college counselor as soon as possible. Work on a funneling strategy to narrow down that large list based on the criteria above and other determining factors to find that right "fit". If you don't have a college counselor, or don't feel comfortable with the one available, there are many online services that can help, just beware of the for-profit institutions that try to lure you in along the way. Fit is important, as you are making a decision that can impact the rest of your life.

I find this article very true and found the statistics kind of scary. It's sad to think that barely 50% actually graduate. However, I feel that when your not quite sure of your major, taking a little more time to decide can be a good thing. I recommend community college for two semesters where you can take a variety of classes to take in all your interests and see what the best fit is. Otherwise, rushing into a degree can backfire if half way through you realize you hate your major and you've spent a lot of much money at a university. I wrote an article on some ways to find the best college fit if you'd like to check it out:
