Is there any assistance out there for private loans. I couldn't get any federal assistance and now I can't find any help to pay back my private student loans. So if anyone knows anything can you please email me.

Hey,

Thanks for the information. I think one being eligible for a 0.25 percent interest rate reduction on the FFEL loans one has consolidated is very minimal.

I'd like to see some reform that would help those of us with private student loans. Groups like Sallie Mae take advantage of us. The rules are not fair. Sallie Mae claims government protection when it is convenient for them and claims private sector when it is convenient for them. Us students who are trying to pay off the loan so we can actually have a LIFE, get screwed. I'd like to get rid of these loans before I retire, otherwise, what's the point of the higher education?....to make more so I can pay more and have the same if not less disposable income as those with no degree! The whole college system needs reformed because the students pay way too much and get taken advantage of by the schools and the loan industry. Can't we have a break somewhere?

So if your 51 and owe 16000 that u hav been paying on 4 10 years, mostly interest mind you. This doesn't help. That's in addition to 96oo in plus loans for the kids. That's 335 a month plus two morgage payments, property taxes and a single parent. Any help for us?

What about students who have private student loans plus government student loans? I currently have both types. I would love to consolidate both, but it is not possible.

I would love to get my masters but I refuse to get any more loans.

I think the whole system is messed up .If you are on public assistance because you got pregnant and your boy friend lives off the system with you because ,if you get married he may have to go to WORK .You get to go to school for free and we all pay for this out of our taxes . How about having some program to help the kids that are out there working and trying to make ends meet after college just to pay these student loans .Maybe those are the future Americans the government should be helping ! Give these kids some help .Reduce their interest rate ,or eliminate the interest all together .

Okay that sounds okay for the qualified borrower who can consoildate their loans. But there are people who can not repay their student loans and are currently in default and are the subject of wage garnishment and income tax offset. i am currently left with a total of $67.00 a week to live on for food and transportation! I know i got myself in this predictiment, but I need relief too!

I represent middle america who works a daily job. I would love to get a masters and work in my field. This would be benefical to both the community and myself because it would enable me to repay my student loans.
