A lot of people don't like elevators. Too cramped, kind of awkward, etc. Now, imagine spending seven hours in one. Even if you don't have any issues with elevators, that doesn't sound so fun.
A Penn State grad student was trapped in a campus elevator at 2:30 a.m. because of a power outage, the Associated Press reports. The elevator didn't have an emergency phone in it, and the student, whom police would not name, did not have a cellphone with him. Police came about six hours after the elevator stopped, responding to another graduate student's call that there was someone stuck in an elevator, the Daily Collegian reports. The trapped student was freed within an hour after the police showed up.
Turns out the elevator is one of more than 150 campus elevators that haven't had emergency phones installed in them. A Penn State spokesman told the AP that of the 315 campus elevators, only 150 elevators on campus already had the phones and the rest were on the way. Luckily, police say the student was OK and didn't appear rattled by the incident. Still, it's hard to imagine him hopping in an elevator any time soon.
