They better hope that if the tax is implemented, that the students don't also acquire voting rights as well. There is an old saying about a 'scorned woman', but upset studnets will be the downfall of the elected officials.

Cutting the city's budget 1% is a better idea.

Currently, five of nine city council members have pledged their support for the 1% tuition tax. Councilwoman Payne is likely the swing vote because she is finishing her term as a lame duck and will be running for higher office next year, not to mention the fact that her future district contains many, many students.
