Colleges are meant to teach students on a subject. If the student has learned that subject, their GPA should reflect that. It doesn't matter if it took them longer, they had to retake the class, or whatever the case may be. If the student learned the subject matter, then their GPA should reflect it. End of story.

I have very mixed feelings about this. On one side, I agree with Muser. On the other hand, this might help students graduate on time and take their classes seriously. No partying and thinking you'll be okay because of it. I would like to see them just reduce it, not just get rid of it completely, though. If there were two classes over the undergraduate career, that might be nice.

Students who PAY in time and money to take a course twice ought to be able to replace the first grade with the second---PERIOD---in every college and all the time. College should never be a place where efforts are made by the institution to wash people out or leave them with permanent bad GPAs that could have been improved with second efforts.

The college is SELLING you something. YOU are the customer.
