does anyone think porn is the only business still thriving during the credit cruch? I think many folks seek refuge in buying and wanking porn during the crunch

The point is not freedom of speech, it is the lack of discretion on the parts of all concerned here. The students are not using discretion in their expectations of an education. The school is not using discretion in determining what constitutes a proper education. The legislators are not using discretion in their trying to micromanage the school's curriculum. Clearly students can find porn easily, they have that right and it is not being threatened. Clearly an institute of higher learning brings shame and discredit to itself and its noble intent and heritage when it endorses porn. Its responsibility is to equip students with the tools necessary to think critically and the context and mechanisms to act constructively as a result of that thinking. Clearly the job description of a legislator does not include telling a school what it can and can't teach, definitely not the purview of 'big brother.' We, the public, society, the constituency, have a legitimate right to expect professional educators and institutions, particularly those supported by public funds, to exemplify and encourage the highest of human aspirations and to expect students to find their porn in places other than their Alma Mater.

If you're considering the social and historical implications of pornography - say, as a history, sociology, gender studies or film major - then it DOES have a place on a college campus. I hate that pornography exists and don't watch it, but I can see how someone studying any of those fields would find value in its viewing, even if they didn't support its existence.

What kind of stupid university ties Pornography to pure education. there is no relevance from one to another. No wonder our new generations are growing stupider each year. We allow some lonesome, over-sex heated person(s) who've visited bancock too many times, to infiltrate our educational system with the excuse that they are somehow going to tie primiscuous lifestyle with persons of self-respect looking to acquire skills and knowledge that doesnt require demeaning themselves to survive. Get real! why dont you stick to teaching our students how to behave respectfully, mind their manners, dress appropriately, and live respectable and successful lives.

JG of NY, it seems like you either didn't read or chose to ignore the following passage in the article:

"The film, which was **not going to cost the university any money** to screen, was to be presented along with a talk from Planned Parenthood on safe sex practices." [**Emphasis mine**]

How convenient of you to disregard the element that refutes your argument.

Your tax dollars have nothing to do with this issue. It is censorship, pure and simple.

Another New Yorker of NY 9:08AM April 06, 2009

It's not censorship. Anyone of legal age is free to see the

movie if he or she choses. But don't assume that people have a right to expect my tax dollars to help support this. This same oversight is used in pro-stem cell research arguments. It was not illegal to perform stem cell research using adult cells from new lines -- Pres. Bush just prohibited using federal funds (i.e., some of my tax dollars) to do so.

JG of NY 8:40AM April 06, 2009

This is censorship.

College students are adults. Telling what adults can or cannot see is wrong. Using political pressure to throw your morals around is wrong.

This is wrong.

This is evil.

Those senators must be voted out.
