Beer Pong and Herpes: This Is a Hoax

Contrary to a rampant rumor on the Internet this past week, there is no direct link between contracting herpes and playing beer pong. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says so, and so does logic. Inside Higher Ed says it best:

It's a little hard to imagine the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the alleged source of the research findings) recommending alternative drinking games to college students or offering advice on how to practice "safe beer pong." And we have a hard time imagining Michael Crow, Arizona State's president, passing out germ-free, new red cups to allow his students to play beer pong without worrying about herpes, as he is described as doing in the article.

I do not know if its possible to get herpies with beer pong or not, but I was playing one night and my partner and I, and even some other friends playing at the same table all ended up with the same horrible cough that didn't go away for 2 weeks. So after that I wouldn't rule out the chance of being able to catch something while playing beer pong.

On top of this, I have played Beer Pong with water cups just to test how much dirt and grim actually still gets in to the cups even after using the rinse cup, and the turn out was pretty gross. You really can't notic much after one game, but after playing 2 or three games with the same water cups you will notice a lot of funk that ends up in the cups.

So what we suggest at www.beerpongone.com is the following.

1. If you are going to play beer pong and drink beer from the cups, make sure you keep YOUR CUPS, so you can use your own cups from game to game and not drink after other people, and also make sure you have a new rinse cup before each game. If they will not provide one, dump it and fill the cup with your excess beer or personal beer to rinse the ball with.

2. Play with water to hold the cups down instead of beer, and have a personal beer that you drink from when shots are made. Its the same thing, you just don't have to drink out of the cups that someone else as drank out of. I mean lets face it, someone could have just gave someone a rim job in the bathroom and drank from those cups before you. You never know...

Bottom line is that Beer Pong is a fun game, and we would like to help people make it safe. Sure when you are able to drink, a lot of us including myself feel that drinking some beer will loosen you up and help you make more cups. Its not really the beer that makes you better like some magic drink that some how turns you in to a super human pong player, but it does relax you and takes your focus off of what is going on around you, and you put more focus on what you are doing in front of you. Similar to dancing. Me like most people will not get out on the dance floor till we have a few drinks in our system. Is it liquid courage? No, it just makes you relax and you lose focus to everything and everyone around you. End result you are not a better dancer from it, you just are no longer focused on everyone else, and the noise, and everyone watching you. Same with Beer Pong, you are not a beer player, you just lose focus to what is around you, and have more focus on whats in front of you and your task at hand. MAKING CUPS!!!

The more you practice with out beer the more you will see you can have fun with or with out using beer in the game. There is one problem with beer and beer pong, which is the same problem with dancing and drinking too much beer. When you drink to much you start to have negitive effects. You no longer shoot good, you knock over your own cups and you go from being great to not making any shots. So if you drink, drink responsible.
