Lord have mercy on those who belittle our Christian belief. Such portrayal of non-Christians would NOT be acceptable! Why always demean us? Could it be that we are constant? Those who think population control is the answer...dying breed.

Think about all the environmental concerns facing humanity: shortages of fresh water, food, oil; the destruction of life in our oceans.

What if there were dramatically fewer than the present 6.7 Billion people now living on Earth?

One Billion people living responsibly could be sustained for thousands of years in a state of material well being in balance with nature. However, the Ten Billion people expected by 2050 can not possibly exist for long on our planet without a huge reduction in standards of living and freedom and unrealistic perfection in environmental programs.

Our children and grandchildren and humanity in general can not afford to tolerate the intolerance of the Catholic Church toward birth control.

Shame on the University of Georgia for caving on this fundamental step toward the survival of our species.

That letter sounded a lot like a threat.

A self-alleged University employee's hateful remarks on this page ("Ashamed of the university") are certainly more shameful to the University than a vice president's thoughtful apology and sensitivity to his diverse neighbors. As a Protestant Christian and University of Georgia alumnus, I am embarrassed that a University employee would be so closed-minded as to dub an entire group of Catholic people "tyranical pissants," simply for requesting repect from their neighbors. Isn't it more "tyranical" to expect a group of people to remain silent when their sacred art and customs are blighted and trivialized? Let us all--believers and non-believers--embody a little respect for one another.

All of you missed the point. Whether Catholics practice birth control or not is their decision to go against the teachings of the church. More to the point, why would any public or private health department or university insult any religion for their teachings or beliefs.

I am a Catholic and I can say for sure that no priest in our church or any other that I visited during these past few years during the campaign ever voiced an opinion of how anyone should vote. The message (and this was not from the pulpit) but after the Mass was over with regular announcments, was: "make sure you vote and vote according to your conscience." That is not telling people how to vote.

Also................ Who is the Catholic League for goodness sake and why apologize for an editorial comment to them?

AJ of Austin, TX of TX 5:14PM February 23, 2009

What do the sensibilities of some Catholics and some Muslims have to do with the sensibilities of god.

The gall, the nerve, the chutzpah, for anyone to believe that they know God's intentions, or that they can speak for God.

Is their God so feeble that he cannot speak for Himself that he requires the aid of some religious fanatic to interpret His message?

How about some sensitivity to the beliefs of others, those who believe in the right to privacy, of direct communication with God and accountability to God, not to some religious know-it-all.

Wow: We DO have some Catholic haters here......

They can't be Christian, as, as the song goes< "They can tell we are Christians by our love." There is NO love, just hate in the thoughts. Pity.

If condom distribution is to be part of Sexual Responsibility Week, surely it can be done without needlessly offending me.

The University of Georgia would never choose a depiction of Muhammad to hawk condoms. Someone might be "offended". Dear me, but please provide me that same consideration. I realize the University is attempting to reach kids by being "hip" and "with it" and I appreciate that effort, but perhaps a better approach would be to present the administration as sane, rational, and intelligent. Just a thought, from someone who receives teary letters requesting money from a University that I many years ago attended. Insulting my sensibilities is NOT a good way to get my attention. Or my check.
