The University of Washington will no longer accept transfer students for the rest of the year because of budget concerns and overenrollment, Seattle University's Spectator reports. The projected reduction of state funds is at 13 percent, leaving the University of Washington short of the money to fund 1,100 students.
"Admitting more students will only compound the enrollment problem. With the pending budget decision, all admissions will be affected in the future," said a UW spokesman.
UW transfer students—mostly from community colleges—make up 30 percent of the total student body.
