Juicy Campus Will Be Shut Down

February 4, 2009 RSS Feed Print

The sour economy has now done what student governments and university administrations have never been able to fully do: Kill Juicy Campus, the much-maligned college gossip site. The Georgetown Voice is the first on the scene, but I'm sure many more students and college newspapers will display varying levels of joy and relief. Juicy Campus's Matt Ivester writes in a press release:

In these historically difficult economic times, online ad revenue has plummeted and venture capital funding has dissolved. JuicyCampus' exponential growth outpaced our ability to muster the resources needed to survive this economic downturn, and as a result, we are closing down the site as of Feb. 5, 2009.

Juicy Campus was one of the most horrific sites I have ever witnessed. I'm glad it is no longer in existence. It made students feel terrible about themselves, and we have enough to worry about.
