New Male Escort Service for Penn State Community

February 2, 2009 RSS Feed Print

Penn State has access to a new male escort service, which city officials are none too happy about, the Daily Collegian reports.

The service, called "The Gentlemen of State College," offers "anything from dinner dates to massages to bachelor parties to bachelorette parties," said Peter Austin, one of the business's managing partners. "The sky's the limit." The one exception, of course, is sex—since that's sort of illegal.

The company has been scouring Craigslist and the Internet for "local talent" to serve as companions, strippers, and male entertainers because "State College has a good amount of money and has a lot of young college students," Austin said. "I figured it'd be a good opportunity because there's nothing like this in the area and because of all the people coming in and out of town, as far as business and football weekends go."

A one-hour booking runs $160.

Meanwhile city officials haven't exactly welcomed the new business with open arms:

State College Borough Council President Elizabeth Goreham said she is concerned about the service and is looking into it.

"This is a little bit disheartening," she said. "It sounds like, well, I don't want to say what it sounds like, but it doesn't sound good. I think we have to check to see what this really is."

State College Mayor Bill Welch shares Goreham's concern, saying the Web site looks "sleazier by the minute."

"Half of those guys are half-naked on the Web site, which raises some questions," he said. "It looks to me like they're saying one thing and doing another."
