Religious Texts Taken Down After Complaints

I think you should all read this book. "The Humor OF Islam" by Az Zaqqum. It shows how muslim countries use those same hadiths in politics and policies.

There is a chapter on Abuse of Muslim Males and, Defending Islam. We see this every day.

Btw, Muhammad was 25 when he married Khadija.

First of all that hadith is about a prophecy of what is going to happen not a command to go kill the jews! WTH?!?!?!?

So will the provost also ban the parts of the Bible that say homosexuals are worthy of death? Will the provost also ban the passages of the bible that prophesize that whoever doesn't believe in Jesus will be killed?

I don't think he will, so don't come here with nonsense.

I don't normally like to get into these discussions, but as a university faculty member, a proud American, and someone who spent years carefully studying Islam, I feel that I should provide a few "insider" thoughts... I'm not trying to defend either Islam or the university, but rather just trying to put things in perspective...

For one thing, YES, the Quran and Hadith contain some rather forceful passages on holy war. But to really understand Islamic scripture, you need to see it in the same light that the people of Arabia, at the time, saw it in. They saw the Quran as a sequence of instructions that built on each other, and occasionally revised one another. Thus, for instance, there are several passages on alcohol, one that says that it has great benefits but even greater harms, but doesn't prohibit it, and a second one that prohibits praying while drunk, and then a third one that finally prohibits drinking, period. Muslims at the time didn't see contradictions between these verses. Rather, they saw each verse as building on the previous, and adding to it, and perhaps even revising it. With this in mind, it's important to understand that, from a purely chronological perspective, the holy war passages are sandwiched between two other sets of passages that talk about peace. Mohamed promoted peace when he was a lonely preacher in Mecca, then ordered holy war after immigrating to Medina and being attacked by his fellow Meccans, then promoted peace again after triumphing and capturing Mecca. Moderate Muslims look at this chronology and conclude that the holy war passages pertain only to that particular time period, and aren't meant as a universal message.

Moving on to pedophilia, yes, Mohamed did consummate his marriage to Aisha when she was only 9, and this CERTAINLY fits today's definition of pedophilia. But it's important to also look at the fact that Mohamed married Khadija when he was only 16, and not yet seen as a prophet, and she was 40. Khadija was not seen as a pedophile when she married Mohamed, and Mohamed was not seen as a pedophile when he married Aisha. People were different, culture was different, and both marriages were seen as normal. I am very glad we live in a society, today, that would label both marriages as abusive. But it's unfair for us to apply these definitions to marriages than happened roughly 1400 years ago.

Moving to freedom of speech and university websites: YES, of course, Muslim students have the right to post the Quran and Hadith on their website. But the university shouldn't have to pay for it! So the university has the right to remove the material.

Finally, moving on to the reasons the material was removed, look at it this way: universities make most of their cash, today, through endowed donations. This is making it increasingly important for universities to control their web image - which is FAIR! It would have been nice, though, if university officials had abstained from insulting students' faiths.

People must have time on their hands to be reading some obscure hadith references. Recognize that bringing this to the national media gives unnecessary publicity to less-than-desirable ideas. Suggest deleting the website from your favorites section and moving on. After all, you cannot fix everything on the net!

Its more passive aggressive. But look at the crusades, Slavery, and Native America, it works!!

More trouble over sombody's god. Trouble over Christ, trouble over Buddah, Trouble over, Allah. The problem is with people, the texts were written by people a LONG time ago. The bible has similar thoughts on people from EVERY other religion besides Christianity, whats the deal here? I'll tell ya, people are choosing to have a problem with it.

The sad fact is that the majority of Abrahamic religions, be it Christianity, Islam or Judaism are extremely violent religions. The Bible, as well as the Koran contain ridiculous directives that end up with people killing one another for the sake of some god or some idea of righteousness. You cannot separate the Old Testament from the New Testament any more than you can separate Jesus from the Bible. The only reason he is believed to be the Messiah is because the Old Testament heralded his birth. To discount the Old Testament is to then say that it's message of a Messiah coming to the earth is also not worthy of consideration. Just so we keep things on an even ground. Nonetheless, it's easy to see, if one but look, that these religions are ridiculously violent and proclaim no other end than the violent death and destruction of all those who do not believe in accord with it's vision of what is right.

For the university to take down the texts perhaps have more to do with the website being associated with the university, a state-funded organization, and therefore subject to the laws of the separation of church and state. At least, as far as I can tell, that's the only way their decision would hold up against the ACLU, but then again, maybe not.

Muslims are outraged at having their anti-Semitic and genocidal texts removed? Why are they not offended at what their prophet commanded and practiced?

Where is the public's outrage at advocates for genocide and anti-Semitism (and slavery, rape, pedophilia, mutilation, and offensive warfare)?

I commend the provost for his courage in calling a spade a "spade." The passages removed are a good start.

However, Allah's commands for the slavery and murder of all who refuse conversion are found throughout Qur'an and Sunnah.

Here are some other passages offensive to non-Muslims, apostates, women, and little girls:

"the Messenger of Allah . . . would say: 'Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war. . . . When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. . . . Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. . . . If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them . . .'" (Muslim Book 19, Number 4294).

"fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) . . . " (Qur’an 9:5).

"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued" (Qur'an 9:29).

"Allah's Apostle said: 'I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Apostle . . . '" (Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 24).

"It is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land. Ye desire the lure of this world and Allah desireth (for you) the Hereafter, and Allah is Mighty, Wise" (Qur'an 8:67).

“Allah’s Apostle said, ‘I have been made victorious with terror . . . ’” (Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220).

"Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him" (Bukhari Volume 9, Book 84, Number 57).

“. . . good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them . . . " (Qur'an 4:34).

“Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will,” (Qur'an 2:223).

"Allah's Apostle said, "If a husband calls his wife to his bed (i.e. to have sexual relation) and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning" (Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 460).

“Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her” (Qur'an 2:282).

“My mother came to me while I was being swung on a swing between two branches and got me down. My nurse took over and wiped my face with some water and started leading me. When I was at the door she stopped so I could catch my breath. I was brought in while Muhammad was sitting on a bed in our house. My mother made me sit on his lap. The other men and women got up and left. The Prophet consummated his marriage with me in my house when I was nine years old” (Tabari 9:131).

“Narrated 'Aisha [Mohammed's six-year-old bride and nine-year-old sexual "partner"]: 'Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You were shown to me twice in (my) dream [before I married you]. Behold, a man was carrying you in a silken piece of cloth and said to me, 'She is your wife, so uncover her,' and behold, it was you. I would then say (to myself), 'If this is from Allah, then it must happen.'"'" (Bukhari Volume 9, Book 87, Number 139 and 140).

Such vile, wretched, hateful filth has no place in a free and decent society, and neither does anyone who defends it.
