Wii Beer Pong Game Denounced by Frat Advisers

July 15, 2008 RSS Feed Print

The Association of Fraternity Advisors has condemned a beer pong video game, saying in a statement that it "normalizes unhealthy and dangerous binge-drinking behaviors" and is "targeted to young people at a most impressionable time in their lives," the Chronicle of Higher Education reports. The game, part of the Frat Party Games series for Nintendo Wii, has also drawn criticism for its "T" for teen rating, meaning it is appropriate for ages 13 and up.

In response, developer JV Games has changed the name of the game from "Beer Pong" to "Pong Toss," but still defends their product. "A racing game is marketed to underage kids, but we all have a reasonable assumption that they won't climb into a car and pattern their driving from the game."
