One Week Later At Northern Illinois

Dear Illinois House and Senate:

Blacks Organizing Leadership Development, BOLD writes the Illinois Legislature in supporting Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. According to your constitution it legally define a process and reasons for moving a seating Governor and it measures with great weight the latitude in which he performs his job. In addition, the Governor has the right to due process and a jury of his peers in order to face his accusers according to the United States Constitution. The law as read does not provide and/or gives constitutional or legal authority to the United States Senate to either admit or deny an appointment by the Governor for United States Senator. We also request that the Legislature demand that the Secretary of State perform his or her duties under Illinois State constitution to carry out those duties by certifying Mr. Burris as Illinois United States Senator. The denial of such appointment borders malfeasance and are grounds for impeaching him/her from office. Therefore, we believe as the nation goes through a series of change with the inauguration of President Elect Barack Obama, we don't believe that our country can endure a distraction or dividing of a nation. Please review the attached letter we wrote to the Governor regarding our support and we pray that the nation adhere to President Abraham Lincoln's last words...

President Lincoln in his commitment to keeping the nation together wrote the magnificent words to the Gettysburg Address reminding us about self-worth and freedom. We pray and admonish the legislature not to move towards a national impeachment of a Governor to the contrary because our nation’s focus should be on changing a way of life for all Americans. We also request that the Legislature help us support enforcing the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, 1967, 1972, 1978 and the Community Service Act 1974 which was illegally repealed by Congress in 1981.

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced
