Between being confronted onstage at the University of Florida and being completely disinvited by Pomona College, Alberto Gonzales has not had the easiest time on the lecture circuit since resigning from his U.S. attorney general post last year.
Students at Washington University in St. Louis cut Gonzales a break, at least relatively, the Student Life reports. More than 100 protesters—donning orange jumpsuits and displaying their "No Torture" slogan—greeted speechgoers, although they mostly kept their demonstrations outside. The outbursts of "liar," "traitor," and "perjurer" didn't do much to disrupt the flow of the speech.
At least one student was annoyed with the protesters: "I think that while I would support anyone's right to protest, there was a more appropriate time to voice disapproval at the forum beforehand. It is rude to interrupt him and it violates my right to hear him.... I commend him for doing it; not very many politicians would have."
