Maine's Vanishing Silverware

January 24, 2008 RSS Feed Print

While not quite on the same level as Duke's current crime problems, the University of Maine is mourning the loss of about 1,500 pieces of dinnerware from one dining hall, the Maine Campus reports. That's $5,000 lost in the first semester and an estimated $10,000 to date—a price that could eventually be passed down to students through tuition or housing fees. Officials are considering banning backpacks from the dining hall and have offered "amnesty" to students with sticky fingers: an anonymous box for the return of stolen dishes.
