Too Much Love for Clinton at UC-Santa Barbara

January 18, 2008 RSS Feed Print

Hillary Clinton's visit to the UC-Santa Barbara campus was in some ways a typical campaign visit. According to the Daily Nexus coverage, she talked extensively about immigration, universal health insurance, Iraq, global warming, etc. She stayed for a question-and-answer session and cracked jokes at the expense of the Bush administration.

"Every time I think I cannot be outraged by the Bush administration anymore...I'd yell at my TV set. You couldn't write this stuff. I mean, the vice president shoots someone in the face?"

But the enthusiastic audience at the last-minute event was perhaps a little too enthusiastic: Only a third of the more than 3,000 who came were admitted, and pandemonium broke out when students attempted to rush the doors and get a seat.

In short, rumors flew, elbows were thrown, people were trampled, and lives were feared for. Even a gopher (the real rodent) came to see Clinton, adding to the hysteria before the speech. "There was a gopher that emerged from its hole and everyone went crazy."

Not that I admire Ms Clinton, but from your reader comments I can see how difficult things are for a woman in the US. Perhaps the burkha is less restrictive. (I am not a Muslim.)

It appears that Ms. Clinton is scrutinized under a magnifying glass while her counterparts are not. In the end, women are truly jealous and bitchy when it comes to another woman and, the majority of men do not want any part of a woman to reach the status of the office she is running for. Just what type of personality do you desire in a woman, demure and shy, silent, or what? Women cry out for equality and when they have a chance, they pick her apart. Is it any wonder Elizabeth Dole who had the ability especially in her time to run for president of the U.S. and did not? Barrack Obama makes a polished and intelligent appearance but when confronted with his past record, mostly all he says is that is false without clarifying it and has been caught in lies. Its okay for him to criticize Hillary for President Bill Clinton to come out for her support, but it is okay to have his supporters, i.e., Oprah, and others to support him. It is okay for him to criticize Hillary and her past actions, but attacks her (and Bill) when they confront him. I guess Black must be beautiful because you can claim discrimination, i.e., being black is Carte Blanche for you. I am not prejudice but I always find myself being discriminated against because I am not "African American."

Aw, c'mon, ALL politicians are "devious" --- some more so than others. The reality is that the American electorate extolls "straight talk" ... but votes for "deviousness."
