Just Kidding, George Washington Students Plead

October 10, 2007 RSS Feed Print

Apparently, the hundreds of fliers and posters that blanketed George Washington University with the message "Hate Muslims? So Do We!!!" were just an ill-advised attempt at stirring up campus debate, according to the Hatchet. The newspaper last night received an E-mail from seven students claiming to be responsible for the fliers. "It is to our great dismay that the student body and the media missed the clear, if subtle, message of our flier: the hyperbolic nature of the flier was aimed at exposing Islamophobic racism," their E-mail said. The students said the posters were a response to "Islamo-Facism Awareness Week," an event sponsored by the conservative Young America's Foundation. The students tried to signal their wry intent with fine print on the bottom of the posters that reads "Brought to you by Students for Conservativo-Fascism Awareness." But generally speaking, when staging a campus protest, fine print shouldn't be a part of the plan.
