NCAA guidelines bar student athletes, coaches, and administrators from betting on sports, but do the rules extend to Facebook? In the social-networking website's March Madness pool, members can win money but don't put any down. Several student athletes had entered the pool at its start, including five Georgia basketball players. In an interview with the University of Georgia's Red and Black, the NCAA suggested those players were violating policy. But the next week the NCAA reversed its story, telling the Harvard Crimson that participation in the Facebook pool, though not encouraged, is not an official violation. Not yet. That could change under a rewriting of the rules, the Crimson reported.
