Contest Time: Illinois Needs a New Mascot!

After a long struggle, the University of Illinois retired its controversial mascot Friday. Some Illini students are fighting the decision, but maybe it's best to skip straight to the next big question: Who will replace the Chief? Maybe a stuffy panel of university professors (and lawyers) will decide ... or maybe a Paper Trail contest will! Send ideas to papertrail@usnews.com. If we get enough suggestions, we'll whittle the best candidates down by next week, then let you vote.

Need ideas? Check out this pretty extensive list of current mascots, courtesy of Wikipedia. (Lesson No. 1: Don't limit yourself to animals! Wichita State's WuShock is an anthropomorphic shock of wheat.)
