Is the Pell Grant Increase Worth the Cost?

College leaders are concerned that Congress and Bush's plan to put more money into Pell grants could actually end up hurting students, if paying for the increase means cutting other student loan programs, the Northeastern News reports. According to Inside Higher Ed, the Department of Education has gone "on the offensive" to promote its plan. But its efforts have not yet killed the money quote: that Washington might be "robbing Peter to pay Pell."
