Well this is a good law considering some people have family that is worse than strangers.

Additional laws to cease cyber-bullying are very important. Teens, and adults alike, should be free from harassment in any form. Darren Chaker

If the cyberbully occured before January 2012, or before the law passed in July 2011, can consequences to the bully still occur?

Just because the law is passed it doesnt mean that it has been stopped people are still cyber bullying and causing harm to others. Not many kids tell there parents so this law is not enforced as it should be. We still have to get the problem out there let kids know that what they say really does stuff. Also let the people being bullied know that they need to tell someone they can trust.

I was harassed via cyber bullying by my roommate who was using anonymous websites to send us text messages that were degrading and threatening, along with accessing my email to write lude and obnoxious things on my facebook. For a while we were convinced we had a stalker and when we discovered it was her it was probably one of the most angry and confusing moments of my life. One of my roommates refused to come home by the time of this discovery, my other roommate (my twin sister) who already was battling depression had reached borderline suicidal, and myself had gone from around 117 pounds to 108 in a month period of time. All of us were struggling to keep up our grades up in school along with lack of sleep and numerous anxiety attacks because of the texting. At one point she texted us every 3 minutes for 8 hours. It might be hard to believe we didn't figure it out sooner, but we were all trusting people and didn't believe someone we considered at the time (but clearly no longer) a friend could do something so damaging. Especially when she was watching what it was doing to all of us. What was worse of all though was the feeling of helplessness, there wasn't legislation at the time so all we could do was threaten to get her kicked out of our apartment an the University for logging into our edu email accounts to access our facebooks. Which would have been a battle to prove anyway. I'm glad cads like her can now get prosecuted. They deserve no less. I get irritated when people say this infringes on free speech. That amendment was created so that those who had information to better the publics understanding of things, or to voice a personal opinion had a right to do so. Cyber bullying is not an opinion, it is harassment, it is cruel and unusual way of attacking someone mentally. Which can be at times even more dangerous as we've seen in instances where the bullied get to fed up they either take their lives, or the lives of others. I hope more laws like this continue to become apart of legislation.

Not only was my daughter a victim of a sexual crime by a teacher but she was also a victim of cyber bullying started by someone who is a memeber of our armed forces when he started a facebook page in supprt of the teacher, even thought the teacher ultimatly plead guilty the Facebook page is still up. He made sure to call the local paper to let them know what he started and my daughters nightmare was there for the whole world to see. there were so many negative comments towards her that I sometimes think how grateful I am that my daughter is still here standing tall. There needs to be more to stop this type of mentality.
