Milwaukee to Form Gay-Friendly Middle School

Couldn't agree any more. The bigger question is why expend the funds on a separate school when we ought to be promoting tolerance in all schools? As a Christian, I don't believe homosexuality is right - but there are more prudent ways than intolerance and hatred to get this across. Some on the right wing go to great lengths to use this and other wedge issues to get the "base" riled up. Then, we have some on the left who also go to great lengths in their disdain for religion (especially Christians) and generalizing Christians as anti-intellectual hate-mongers. Everyone can probably do better...

Milwaukee schools are failing in every way possible. Check out the data to see how bad the educational system is in this city.

Why is it even necessary to create a gay friendly school people are goin to have their opinion anyways. It seems like to me its a waste of time and thoughts; furthermore, one of schools best lessons come through interactions with other students and they need to be exposed to students with all types of views. Middle school is much to early for anyone to be involved in that type of atmosphere anyways. I hate to see this day but I understand people are different. God is probably looking down on us shaking his head...

Hi. Good news.

I think this comes down to the U.S. education system. I believe an excellent educator is one who embraces the values of our free and equal nation. Since educators carry a heavy weight in molding future generations--I think Arne Duncan must really work during his term to implement a standard for diversity programs across the board and rid the system of uneducated, ignorant teachers.

In my opinion it's the ignorance that fosters hate. And hate that destroys the beauty of a free nation.

It breaks my heart to learn of young childen being ridiculed by adults.

Come on folks, grow up.

And there's no money for books, music and other ACTUAL educational related costs because.......

And people wonder why I think the public school system is a sham.

Where on earth is this discussion going?

Christian nation?

Country following the Bible?

That's not what anyone should want. Secular government and the separation of church and state is what made this country what it is now. We didn't build this thing to force our religious views on others - we did it so that others religious views would not be forced on us. History, do you know it?

We are a great country because everyone can contribute to society with what talents they posess. To call this a Christian nation and demand that it be guided by only those beliefs degrades the contributions of others. We are more than Christian. We are a nation of individuals, guided by different faiths, working together toward a common good.

How far is it really from demanding a Christian nation to demanding that Christianity be of only one type? Forgetting the problems between the different sects of Islam, do you really want to be like Ireland not too long ago?

Let the government get back to governing and leave faith where it belongs - in the hearts and actions of the faithful.

And back on the real topic here - to make all schools safer for all students, no matter what they're bullied for, shouldn't we be more concerned with teaching tolerance to teachers? Shouldn't they be the ones whose job it is to stamp out bullying? Students would learn from their example, and emulate their actions. And really? Does specifically pointing out what makes a kid different help at all? Doesn't that just make it worse?

What is it about this Alliance school that makes it so safe? If it's better trained teachers, shouldn't that be promoted everywhere?

Wow. I'm so sorry. Not sorry that it took "so long", but sorry about how far our nation has strayed from honoring our Creator, God. Yes, accept gays, because God made them and loves them. But no, don't accept their sexual preference choices deviant from the Word of God.

Our nation has become so entangled in the web of lies spun by satan. Satan makes sin appear good, and God seem cruel. God truly loves and accepts each person. He loves each of us so much that He chose to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to endure mockery, cruelty and crucifixion. Praise God, He raised Jesus from the grave on the third day. Jesus paid the price for each person's sins. Believing in Jesus is the way to God, the ONLY way. God's Holy Word, the Bible, provides clear instructions on how to live and what choices to make. As we seek to know and follow God, He fills our lives with peace and joy, and the absolute hope of heaven.

What a wonderful day it would be when our nation chose to seek God and His will instead of personal preferences and choices. It's all about HIM, not us.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is not pointing out your a "Gay Friendly School" exactly what will cause more harassment.

When did the job of public schools, (that our tax dollars pay for) become about sexual preference or confusion. Aren't our school supposed to teach math, language, science, history? It concerns me that we are becoming a nation more concern with the words “tolerance and acceptance” instead of “morals and values”. Schools should not be teaching or supporting such pratices.

Kids have enough to deal with in this world, now we want to add this.

It's laughable how some christians balk about what's sin and what's not sin. You don't know diddly-squat about sin or anything else. Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. And if you're going to talk about what it says in your precious bible, in the same section it alludes to homosexuality being an abomination, it also says that eating shrimp is an abomination and that you should stone your daughter if she dishonors you. When was the last time YOU had a shrimp salad.
