'End-of-Course' Exams Catching On

I think that it is completely unreasonable to base a whole high school experience on one test. And the fact that we still have finals as part of our end grade makes it even more ridiculous. Periodic tests throughout the year would be a more efficient way of gauging a students apprehension of the information. The fact that one test determines your future makes no sense what-so-ever.

As someone who went to school in NY this is nothing more than the end of the year "Regents Exams" that we always took in high school. This was an excellent gauge of how much you learned in that subject. Any teaching worth anything had students that did well on the exam, while still being able to cover over topics.

As an older student, I have come to the realization that the younger generations of students are not learning as much as they should.

If our students are going to be given a diploma, I would certainly hope that they actually learned something while they were in school.

If you're going to squander your time while in school, then don't waste the money that your parents are spending for you to be there.

Personally, I dislike tests like any other student; however, I still feel as if they are important. I admit we do participate in a large number of exams, but I also feel as if they are there for a purpose. Do you think that teachers like grading the exams? The answer is no. Yet, these exams are put into place so that the teacher knows where the students are standing with the material; therefore, allowing the teacher to slow down and pace the material or strive ahead into new territory.

Think about it. You want your students to be smart and successful, let them take the exams and prove how much they know.

Egads when is there time to do "real" learning, and not the scriped kind written by those far away from the classroom.

All I know is that students are test way too much, test prepped way to much, and the testing companies are making oodles of money.

This does not make sense. Sounds like extortion to be.
