Palo Alto CA High School just published a study that shows that ipads will cost $24,000 more for a class of 32 students over 6 years (6 years is the life of 1 textbook and the life of 1-1/2 ipads)---- the ipad program is through Apple- and each textbook costs $14.99 per year-- plus students need an iTunes account to use a voucher from the school for a free download of each textbook...

My daughter's high school in CO is a one-to-one school, based on Google. But, they offer a choice to the students to use their preferred OS (Windows/Apple/Linux) and hardware. I don't see where this has anything to do with a specific piece of hardware, like the iPad. It is about the medium used, i.e., computer based training. A school cannot dictate that a student choose one manufacturer over another...contrary to what Apple tries to push.

Hi there.

I was reading your article on the iPad in high schools, and I’m wondering if you have a list of the high schools throughout the country that have adopted or are piloting programs on the iPad.

Any information you could pass along would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Many people(yes teachers too) say that the ipad is improving their teaching methods, and there are many ways we can fix the simple problems. I don't like the cost but using the ipad could be a great investment.

Schools who have started using ipads instead of notebooks and textbooks have saved over $11,000 in only two years.

This is great. At my company, TRTLBOT, we created an eco-friendly iPad 2 case that would be great for the classroom. It has locking feature and a home button blocker to make students stay engaged in the educational app the are in. Check out our project on kickstarter.com http://kck.st/pxcAli

the stupidest thing ive ever heard. we are becoming slaves to technology. first 4th graders start getting blackberries, and now ipads? stop throwing away our well-needed money!

I think its brilliant. The materials become interactive allowing students to get a better grasp of the concepts and they aren't weighted down lugging around tons of books.

While I wish Apple had support for FLASH content, they do have a large volume of material already to support the iPad.

Couple it with an inexpensive Bluetooth keyboard/case and you have everything a child needs... all their books, computer, everything wrapped up in one small portable device.

If you look at the cost per child over a 3 year period you have about $135 dollars a year for the iPad or about $13.50 a month figuring a 10 month school year.
