i think that letting the kids use technology is a great idea but giving kids the ability to take the home could be a very bad idea. They could download things they are not supposed to and alot of other things to. When asked to open a book on the ipad, they could really be on facebook, email, or be playing a game. Even though there are some bad things that may come along, the ipad is still a good idea. Trading in hardback books for ebooks is a great trade. Just be careful how much freedom you give them.

I can see the use of iPads in schools, however, I think letting students take them home presents a rather large financial risk for the district. Many parents would not be able to pay for the damages incurred to the iPads. As much as I like technology in and out of the classroom, I think the technology needs to stay within the walls for the most part. It is unfortunate.

This an article from Cleveland.com about the difficulties that can come from the transportation of technology to and from school.

stop using ipads and keep using textbooks. people need to be able to look things up themselves and not rely so much on technology,.

I see the advantages of using an iPad in the classroom but I worry about the implantation of a one to one program in a small school district. Can a very small district, like the one I work in use this and not end up spending too much money on up-keep? It sounds like for a small district quite a bit of money might be lost, especially in the first year.

It's exiting to see how much this will really impact students in their learning. Being a teacher and with young children of my own just getting to the age of having iPads in the classroom, it will be an adventure!

My son is required to take his own personal electronic device to his high school this year. As a teacher myself, from the older generation, I understand the need to continue to educate myself.

This will be great to follow and learn from.

Stephan of WI 9:22AM July 31, 2012

This is a great way to save on the cost of textbooks. I also believe it will keep the students engaged. Obviously, they will have to work out some kinks.
