Victims of cyberbullying tend to be shy children with poor interpersonal skills, making them more likely to rely on the Internet for social stimulation. Teens struggling with sexual orientation are also vulnerable, as well as those diagnosed with depression. As a parent the most important thing is my child's safety. This blog covers how a mother is dealing with a heartbreaking experience and how you can better protect your kids. I have got to agree Topix is awful. That sick has nothing good about at all. Besides numerous trash forums for communities do a google sometime for the human sexuality or AFAM Forums. Community after community is having problems with that site it has no conscience.

There are two problems that make Topix worse than other cyberbullying site. The first is that they are a news site, so they are considered to be very reputable for information. Web searches go to Topix very reliably and so you really can make up a story about someone and have it look like news and be found easily.

The second problem with Topix is that they have no system at all to prevent cyberbullying. I mean nothing. No registration, no email and no way to delete what you write. People are talking non stop about the fact that they only have a few moderators for the whole site and that mostly they refuse to delete things that are written about people, whether true or false, personal or not, child or adult. That isn't right and its dangerous.

This site could end up becoming the number one most dangerous site on the internet. Already parent groups have added it to their watch list.

As far as I know, if someone puts your name or your child's name up there you are SOL. This guy wrote a pretty good website if you end up a victim at Topix.

...or rather Technology with Technology.

As a Certified Child & Internet Safety Advocate, I conduct workshops to help educate and empower teachers, parents and guardians, etc..

As I've spoken with parents and teens, I've seen time-and-time-again the main issue is that parents just don't know what to look for, how to look, or that they should even be looking.

While education is a powerful tool (and a must); alone, it isn't enough. Nor is "Friending" your child on Facebook or "Following" them on Twitter. Parents need to find technology with which they are comfortable, and that will help them understand what is real danger, what is potential danger, and even what is plain ol' fun.

I'm bias on one in specific, but there are others out there. I promote www.Kid411.info as it combines a number of important functions in a single place and even translates that near impossible text lingo.

Thanks for posting this great article. I've added it to my collection of information for those interested in and concerned about this topic at www.facebook.com/kid411
