Answering More Questions About U.S. News's Online Education Surveys
Tweet Share on Facebook August 18, 2011 CommentAs noted previously in this blog, U.S. News is in the midst of collecting data for a revamped online education section. As promised in last week's entry, below are answers to more commonly asked questions about completing U.S. News's online degree surveys:
Q: My school is unable to provide statistical data for some of the survey questions. Should it still submit surveys?
A: Yes. We recognize that most schools will not complete every cell in every question, especially this first year. The methodology for calculating rankings will depend on the robustness of data collected, meaning that the questions that schools respond to most frequently are the ones most likely to be used as ranking variables. A school that does not provide enough data to be ranked at all will still have a profile of its online degree program included in U.S. News's free searchable directory.

U.S. News Releases Online Grad Degree Surveys
Tweet Share on Facebook August 11, 2011 CommentAll online education degree surveys are in the hands of eligible schools. On July 28, usnews.com launched surveys to master's degree level education programs in five disciplines: business, computer information technology, education, engineering, and nursing. If your institution has questions about which people in specific programs received surveys, including the online bachelor's degree survey sent a couple weeks earlier, contact OnlineEdOfficial@usnews.com.
We are pleased that so many schools have already either submitted or made substantial progress on their surveys. But the more schools that participate, the more questions they ask. Many of these questions resemble those submitted by participants in our recent WCET webcast. Our written responses to their open questions about survey design, rankings methodology, and the upcoming U.S.News & World Report online education directory are published on the organization's website along with an archive of the webcast and a near replica of the bachelor's degree survey.
