Valid? Says who? The partners at Jones Day?

How come I haven't received a ballot? How come I haven't been asked to prepare a Peer-Review? How come no other attorney I know has been asked to prepare a Peer-Review of my performance?

I've been practicing for over 15 years; I've tried more cases than many big firm partners and I've earned reported reversals in the New York appeals courts. I write for and speak on behalf of the New York State Bar Association. My clients inlude Law firms. That's right, law firms turn to ME to represent them.

You indicate that firms will be ranked "large and small". It seems that, by small, you mean lawyers who defected from large firms to start their own practices.

I'm going to wager that this post will go unanswered. U.S. News doesn't care if its rankings are valid or thorough. It cares about the good old greenback. U.S. News is patting the big boys on the back so that they, in turn, will advertise in U.S. News & World Report.

In the meanwhile, firms like mine, which compete with bigger firms for corporate clients will be "unranked" and will be deemed inferior and will suffer unnecessarily.

I can only hope that the public is not duped into relying on your law firm rankings as they have been with your law school rankings.

Not that it matters to me anymore, but law students generally interview in August and September. Many have made their decisions by October. If it were me, I'd have the rankings come out in August or September, not October, assuming that law students are the people you are targeting as your audience for these rankings.

People like to bash the rankings, but I think providing students and lawyers with quantitative data on 5,000 law firms is going to be a really valuable source. I am excited to see what kind of quantitative data will be included in the rankings. I can't wait until it comes out.
