Valerie, congrats on your pursuit of your RN license. I know the amount of debt from student loans can seem overwhelming, but depending on your area, you may be able to secure a nursing position after you're licensed that will offer $X ($1500 for example) per year toward student loan payoff for X number of years (3 years for example) as an incentive to recruit applicants for hard to fill positions.

I am starting at a Community College in 2 weeks. I was lucky to receive a pell grant. I am 47, married , have 3 kids, one at the college where I am going and I work 2 part time jobs. I have been cleaning houses since the kids were little and I am so looking forward to getting into a career with benefits and retirement. I've lost a few houses because of the economy.I never thought I would have the money to back to school and was so surprised to find out I was eligible for a grant. There are grants and scholarships out there. Our local hospital offers scholarships to nursing students. To Valerie of AZ. I hope your local Hospital has something like that. It's never too late to go back to school. Keep looking, I am sure there is something out there.

Hello, if you are a non-traditional student you should explore financing options with your colleges financial aid officer, even older students can get scholarships. Fast Web is a good place to use. You could also see about testing out of some classes, most colleges have this option check with your admissions office, this helps cut down on cost and time. Hope this helps.

I have been attending college going on my second year. I'm 49 female and work a full time job. I will owe a lot of money to become an RN. It will take me years with no outside help but loans to pay back. I'm old enough to want it and know that it is my calling in life now. I wish I could get money for free as the young kids are getting that I attend school with. However; I am a graduate from the school of Lifes not fair class and am gratful for what I have. Somedays are just so long and wish I could catch a break. I look forward to every class I attend and will struggle till I reach my goal. The payoff is priceless.

I believe that everyone should be provided the opportunity to increase their potential. College helps individuals in many ways. It is very helpful to have a college back ground in our later working years. I would like to see more programs targeting traditional students and provide funds to assist while we work full time and raise our families. For the younger student, I would strongly encourage college before you consider a career and family. And....one should never knock anyone down in their attempts in searching for college assistance. Everyone deserves an opportunity to make changes and increase their potential. To Patricia of Arizona, please continue to search and do not give up on your educational journey. Yes, I have $44,000 in student loans and eight years of college to date. I search all of the time for college funds. P.S. I am 18 hours away from my degree and no longer eligible for student loans.....I am hopeful that I attain my degree. Believe me when I find money...I will utilize every penny to complete my dream.

I want to go to college to getedu. so I can get job or run my on business. I have worked all my life. I in good health. I need job. Noone hires ^& yrs with no college. I want to go but I need money free to go.Why isn't there programs for the older people. I see that you want to see us not work, only the young that is wrong.

Oh my......I can't imagine that you are actually in college! Your grammar and lack of punctuation is awful - nothing up to the speed of a college student!
If your letter is an indication of your ability, I wouldn't worry about tuition for medical school - you'll never make it. In fact, I wouldn't worry about tuition for next semester. Looks like you're probably finished with college!
