From my perspective the scores are not as essential in determining ability as the students GPA in the 5 core areas of study: English, Math, Science, Social Science, Language. The benefit of the test score can help reinforce a students academic standing, but it can also help a student who struggled within those areas of study to demonstrate aptitude not seen in their GPA. We believe the best indicator of success lies in a history of academic success, but that does not nullify the possible benefit the test score can play in assisting us make a decision on an application if we see the low GPA and high test score. The key is a holistic approach to reviewing each application and how the test scores, transcript, essay, recs, etc. interact to give us the best picture possible of each student.
