Colleges build buildings....and when they cant get donors to pay, the buildings are capitalized on a per student basis. Never mind that your student won't spend so much as a minute in the science or music building. Everybody pays.

Don't forget about checking their mobile device plans.. if there are limits that is truly an unexpected and usually expense additional cost.. so find out what they cover and review it with them.. Here is a good series of articles written by a Mom with more good advice for buying books, setting up the dorm room and things parents need to know like health care proxies.. worth a read
