This strikes me more as an opinion piece than an article giving the reader the 'lowdown' on online MBAs. Many of the for-profit MBA programs are of high quality. Are they Harvard or Yale? No. But as a recruiter I would certainly value someone who has completed their MBA from U of Phoenix over a similar candidate that had not. Just my $0.02.

Thanks,

Mike

One must check out Aspen University when considering an MBA degree online, or many online degrees for that matter. The new management team, programs offered and website really deliver a great product. Most importantly, the value! I am looking at the MBA program and it is far less expensive than most out there and may be one of the best education values online. Good luck to all!

Although I enjoyed your article you failed to address the diffrent types of accreditation: institutional and specialized. Institutional accreditation (NCA/HLC, NEASC, MSACS,etc.) is what allows colleges and universities to grant degrees. The AACSB is an accreditation for research/applications-based schools and the ACBSP is an accreditation for teaching/applications-based schools. Inform your readers that neither one of these accreditations grant degrees so they can make an educated decision.

I also enclosed a link to CHEA website: www.chea.org/

Outside of great marketing, CHEA is the only reasons most accreditation programs are even acknowledged.

Thank you for your informative article.

As a hobby, I have been ranking and publishing rankings for online MBA programs since 2008. I also earned my own MBA onlien in 2009. My point is not to sell you on any one program, but to remind the audience that online MBAs exist to serve a need and a demographic which need a means to earn credentials but cannot do under the traditional structure. In the same way the MBA degree itself was created to meet a need which classical academic degrees could not serve.

Before pursuing an MBA and choosing your program, you need to understand what you want to do, and the benefits/costs of each alternative. Online MBA degrees are great ... if you understand what you are getting, what you are giving up to go this way, and what long-term interests you need to address. You also need to consider how your degree will be seen in the environment you wish to join. There is still a strong bias against non-traditional programs, even though a solid online program will make good use of tools that traditional programs miss, like virtual teams, online real-time conferencing, and real-world businesses used for strategic projects and case competitions.

Allen,

Yes there are many universities that offer online MBA's today, yet many of them are very expensive, almost as much as attending a university for it. I recently just graduated from Aspen University's online MBA program and I thought it was great. Better yet, it was very affordable. I think you should definitely look into it.

Allen: Many traditional universities offer online MBAs today. The University of Mississippi offers an online MBA as does Southern Arkansas University. Both are AACSB accredited. I mention those two because I have personal connections to both schools. I believe the MBA at UM is around $12k and at SAU it is around $8k.

What about an online MBA that is AACSB accredited and is part time so you can do it at a slower pace? I would like to pursue a graduate degree, but still need to focus most of my time on my career. Which part time/online MBA has the best national rank to price per credit hour? Looking for a quality graduate degree that is respected by recruiters, flexible enough to progress at my own pass, and won't cost me a kidney to obtain. Any thoughts, advice?
