To graduate from a Mississippi high school, students must pass assessments in Algebra I, Biology I, English II and U.S. history. The Mississippi Department of Education's Office of Healthy Schools oversees the wellness of students through nutrition, physical education and counseling programs.
In the U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 rankings, four Mississippi schools earned silver medals, including Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, which is part of the Lamar County School District, and Pass Christian High School, in the Pass Christian Public School District, located about 170 miles southeast of Jackson.
