By the end of eighth grade, Louisiana students develop Individual Graduation Plans based on their talents and interests. Once in high school, there are a few different sets of graduation requirements students can choose from, including the Career Diploma. This set of courses consists of 24 credits, including seven units of career and technical education, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.
Among the U.S. News Best High Schools in 2013, Louisiana has 72 bronze medal schools. Some of Louisiana's top-ranked schools are within the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board School District in the state capital of Baton Rouge, and within the Orleans Parish School Board School District in New Orleans.
